Experience and/or familiarity with government organizations (via military service, civilian, or contractor) within DoD or other Federal Departments/Agencies is required. As well as strong experience in accounting for federal government contracts, and a strong work understanding of government cost accounting standards (CAS) and the FAR and/or DFAR.
Process and review information and data used to generate the monthly general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, records and reports in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), and applicable Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
Leadership of the accounting team including hiring, developing and mentoring of staff, providing performance feedback, and day-to-day management of department responsibilities.
Oversight of the monthly and year-end close and related financial reporting, preparation for and support of periodic and year-end audits.
Recommending appropriate revenue recognition methods for government contracting professional services projects.
Compile information for the monthly financial package for management
Reviewing the effectiveness of internal system and policy controls and developing new controls and policies to ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, and other applicable regulations.
Interact with internal and external auditors including development of analyses and schedules for audits.
Preparation of internal and external financial reports, including incurred cost submissions to DCAA.
Document, monitor and continuously improve/standardize or recommend improvements to processes and controls
Help ensure adherence with policies designed to help maintain compliances
Prepare quarterly and annual filings and reports to outside agencies
Maintains professional and technical knowledge
Performs various other special projects analyses and other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related field and at least 7 years of on the job accounting experience.
Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience with a government contractor with Exposure to FAR/CAS/DCAA
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Government Contracting required.
CPA or MBA preferred
Experience with financial analysis and variance analysis for a Federal Government contractor.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting concepts, policies, requirements and regulations required
Proficient in the use of computerized office equipment and programs and demonstrated knowledge of advanced (Excel) spreadsheet functions required
Experience in government contract accounting, including strong working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and applicable CAS provisions, and understanding of DCAA and DCMA operations required
Good communication (both oral and written) and analytical skills required.
Thorough knowledge of accounting fundamentals.
High degree of proficiency in Excel.
