The Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, also known as Naval Reactors, provides militarily effective nuclear propulsion plants to the United States Navy, and ensures their safe, reliable, and long-lived operation.
Naval Reactors has total responsibility for all aspects of the Navy’s nuclear propulsion, including research, design, construction, testing, operation, maintenance, and ultimate disposition of naval nuclear propulsion plants.
The Naval Reactors Laboratory Field Office Contracts Division provides oversight to the Naval Nuclear Laboratory which is managed and operated under contract for the Department of Energy (DOE). Naval Reactors Laboratory Field Office employees support four DOE facilities located at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, New York, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site in West Milton, New York, and The Naval Reactors Facility located on the Idaho National Laboratory.
